TDoR, Porn, and an Update

Yeah, I’ve been a neglectful blogger. Something about writing for a living that makes writing in my free time seem like work. Well, it appears I have some free time, and I’ve had some ideas for new posts that I haven’t done anything about.  I still have things to say, it’s just taking me a while to say them.

The first thing I want to talk about is a post from last year that got some attention, and is still one of the top hits on the site.  Last year, I wondered if the porn industry observed the Trans Day of  Remembrance?

In that topic I had a rather involved, and somewhat heated, discussion with Steven Gallon from Grooby Productions (better known as Seanchai). The result of that conversation, or at least I think it had some small part in the result, surprised me…

Below the fold will be links to content that is likely NOT SAFE FOR WORK…

I noticed an announcement on the Grooby Steven Seanchai FaceBook page in mid November that gave a link to the main TDoR site. I was pleased to see this being sent out to folks who generally don’t have much awareness of trans women outside of a specific context. While I doubt anyone attended a DoR as a result, and that’s not really the point, I’m sure that men who exist on the edges of our community are a little more aware in a more concrete way about violence against us.

Steven also posted on the Grooby Blog (The NSFW part) and the main site :

This Saturday, November 20th, will be The Transgender Day of Remembrance, an occassion set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. Many cities around the world are holding events or vigils and if you can possibly attend one of these and show your support, then I urge you to do so. The more exposure that these hate crimes against transgenders get, then the more likely it is, that something will be done about it. Please visit Transgenderdor.org for a list of events.

We at Grooby will be donating all new sales (and any subsequent rebills) on Nov 20th to a transgender charity (charities) for our sites S Yum, Black Tgirls and S Pornstar.

If there is anyway you can get involved at all, please do!

* I removed the links to the three site and edited their names, if you want to read the full text, please follow the link.

The DoR signal was boosted to a population who is in a position to actually want/need to do something about this that this is a good/important thing.

While Steven isn’t a saint, (he is after all successful in one of the most cutthroat industries) I feel like he is trying to do the right thing. I think his DoR post and donations were an appropriately understated compromise.  Personally, I’d like to see the content of all the trans porn sites redirected to the TDoR page or something – I also know how unrealistic that is for a variety of reasons. I’d also like there to be more of an awareness of the huge numbers of murdered trans women from Brazil and Brazil’s position within the trans sex industry.

Totally personally, (and if this isn’t cool let me know Steven) the following  from Mr. Grooby really meant a lot to me:

it was your comments last year, which made sure that I remember this year – so your activism is not for nothing!

I’ve been doing online activism for years, and most often I feel like I’m just jogging in place. No visible changes or specifics to point to that show how my/our activism is having concrete, direct, positive results. Lots of slow shifting of attitudes and policies to be more aware, but few actual “You did this thing, and this is what I did because of it.” (Unless I’ve pissed someone off, then they are really quick with “I used to not care about trans women, now I’ll spit on one every day for ever”). So a personal thanks Steven.

  1. The issue is one of Trans-visibility.
    Think back over the years to gay rights and gay individual visibility.
    If people didn’t stand up for gay rights, where would things be now.

    Ok, with me so far.

    Trans for most is something to pass through, before getting on with ones life as female. {which is one MAJOR difference between trans rights/needs & gay rights/needs}

    One of the biggest issues of normalcy is visibility.
    As you mentioned to me last year,
    Females seen in porn are counterbalanced by the huge majority of women in everyday life
    and this removes sexual objectification by everyday men.
    Trans-females don’t have that counterbalance; most trans women encountered generally (& identified as being trans) are mainly through both whoring and porn.

    Now, to a degree I think you are spot on with your thoughts about this.
    But I would not lay this reality solely at Steve’s door, nor any other trans producers door either.

    The biggest problem is one tiny little word: Stealth.
    I whore, do porn shoots and post on several trans forums
    {JodieTs is my tag on HLB}
    but for the rest of my life
    (and this is the vast majority of my time)
    I’m totally in stealth.
    I could get off my backside and make myself visible
    but I don’t;
    nor do most transsexuals. We just get on with our lives.
    I could tell people who flirt with me/serve me at the bank/hold a door open for me…
    …..that I was born with a penis
    {society is fixated on genitalia, after all}
    but I’m not sure what that would achieve.

    Some say that me quietly living my life is a good example to society
    that trans are just like everyone else.
    But that’s just the point; if the world & his wife don’t know I’m trans-variant, then I’m not an example of anything at all…

    This is the problem for which I don’t have an answer:
    If one can achieve a high degree of stealth,
    then fighting for trans rights and right to be free of persecution
    would throw away the very thing which what we all want.
    ie to be perceived as just another female.
    And ones life then becomes an endless campaign.

    I am open to yours and other peoples thoughts on this thorny issue.

    Misha.

  2. Wow, that’s a post I’ve been noodling around for a very long time. I agree with everything you said, and I don’t have an answer beyond my own life. I think most trans women are “situatinally stealth” – that is, we have various degrees of disclosure depending on where we are and what is happening.

    I’ll have a longer post about this later as I gather my thoughts into something that doesn’t ramble (as my first attempt to reply did).

    I do want to touch on placing blame – I’m not blaming Steven or the sex industry for a lack of non-sexual trans images. That would be like blaming the cheese industry for not drawing attention to ice cream (both valid and tasty uses for dairy, but not related beyond how they started). I do, however, think that the people who operate the trans-sex-industry need to be aware that their images are largely the only or most accessible ones there are. I don’t expect anyone involved in the industry to carry the flag of trans liberation (or whatever). Rather, I hope that folks in the industry can promote an awareness beyond the fantasy.

  3. Misha,
    I love how you worded it. I had a friend recently that was so upset that people just assumed her gender. I really didn’t understand that she was so bent out of shape about the whole pronoun thing. My point to her was that I was so glad people didn’t try to guess my gender and just assumed I was female. It would really bother me if the general population started guessing. It almost really goes for rights as well. As soon as we are out there and well known everyone is going to be guessing genders and where we belong. Soon it will be policed as to pre operative and post operative which bathroom to use. I don’t want to see a world like that. The issue gets more convoluted though when you think about jobs. I don’t want to be fired from a job or not have an opportunity because they find out I am transsexual. So really its a double edge sword. We don’t want the general population to know but we do want equal right everywhere… I don’t think there is a real easy answer.

  4. Again it amazes how much Steve Gallon can ventilate his so called broadened views on transgenders. Only only only keep in mind mr Gallon doesn’t give shit. He only cares about the money. This is not my first reply on your blog. Only I saw Steve,Frank and a few more of his friends hanging out in Thailand. Bullshitting anyone. FRom fellow countrymen up to Thai “models”. Even using some of them to blackmail unware “customers” or grind an axe with other guys who operated in the same area. Which means make cheap porn, pay the models almost nothing and when having the chance take the money and run. Their good friend Eric (somchai) from England got licked by big C. The only fear Steve has. And his weak point. Eric was the worst. KIcked out of Isan and Chiang Mai. Hanging around in Pattaya trying to become a kind of old man pimp.

    Steve and Frank learned a lot from him. THat is why nobody misses them in Thailand. Perhaps Dr Kim Martin or Entrox or Martin Germany.. THe Korean german pretending to be a doctor. Well that guy didn’t know when he got a swinger. Wow a great doctor indeed. Although he is clever enough to hurt his own feet all the time. That way he was able to bullshit health insurance in Mannheim Germany. Leave on their costs in THailand. Imagine a 30 year old not really sick leaving on the back of hardworking people from Germany. If you ever meet him be aware to meet the worst backstabber in the world. Oh yes and in Pattaya he holds the world championship cheap charlie. He even beated Tony (Rosco from lb69) and Anthony Mountney (Anthony 70 from lb69).

    So please open up your eyes. Steve Gallon is as much a saint as the devil dressed up in goody two shoes. I really don’t get it why people are deceived so easy. Dig every crap this sack of wind blows. Not to mention his friends. Steve is still trying to get his hands at me. He treatened many times. Well Steve your buddy Frank had the chance one time. Standing at the same elevator in a Bangkok hotel. Now that was funny. So far it seems all Steve can do is keep silent. He has to because all of his websites have one thing in common. They loose money day by day. Hour by hour. THe dream is over Steve. Porn once was big. Until the pirates came. Nobody could stop them.

    Until the next time.

  5. I like to add some information. Be warned that most of the websites Steve or similar good old boys run are in fact rip offs. And keep in mind that most of them are the trash nobody needs. Grooby ain’t the only one. Marc Newman is a notorious crook. Failed as a teacher because of his “strange” behaviour and his femboy dreams. Marco had to run to LOS. Started a website called asiants. First the number one website. Later a big failure. Then honest Marco sold it to a ” friend”. Including the copyrights. Well he used the trip reports of oothers claiming it was all his property. In a proper way. Only on his new website he used the same material he sold to a “fellow” website. Ain’t that funny.

    Almost forgot to mention that on his websites members had to pay to post on his forum. By creditcard of course. He made so ” many” friends Marco had to run and hide in Hua Hin. The best thing he did was run away with nearly 1500 pound which other members had raised in Pattaya on a ladyboy volleyball festival. For charity. Of course Marco forgot to connect it to the right paypal address. All a big misunderstanding. Like so much in Newman’s life. Breaking balls. Well one day someone might break his balls. Then he won’t play the flute like a court jester anymore. But end up like Mr lucky from the monkey farm in Chiang Mai.

    Next time I tell about you about Tony,Frank,Bob and Rene. Rene the Batman. And how Rene got his own small banking crisis in 2007. How the Batcave got robbed. And Robin turned out to be a ladyboy in disguise. Becoming the victim of Frank the joker . Our man from Portugal. Oh so funny. LIke a Spanish Stroll.
